They're not all theological, ya' know!

So...my purpose--or so I tried to convince myself--was to shop for Dad for Father's Day, right? Well, at the end of the evening, after bombing out at the Lifeway store first, I found myself pushing a buggy up to the checkout line at Target with...a card. The teenage guy at the register looked at thle buggy twice and said "Wow!". I said, "Yeah, I know--way to rock that Father's-Day shopping, huh?" We both cracked up. On the positive side, though, we did have some really great sushi while we were out shopping, so it wasn't a total loss!

Drove home in an amazing downpour of rain--it was massive! We've all been praying for rain here, because it's been bone-dry since mid-March, so it was awesome to see! I love how God does that--not just with rain, but with everything good--He loves to pour out more than we can even imagine to ask for, just to show His love!

What's your God like? Do you envision a God who doles out the minimum grudgingly? Or does your God throw away the dipper and pour out the whole bucket? I've discovered that the real God is lavish--He pours out blessing with extravegance--He doesn't sprinkle, He saturates! Maybe that's why I'm a Baptist (no offense to my brothers and sisters of other denominations). Instead of a little sprinkle of salvation--instead of a little sprinkle of forgiveness, my God has a deep, cold, bottomless pool of grace! It's not just a portion of His goodness--no, He gives me access to the source--to the headwaters of His full holiness, and bids me drink deep and long, until my soul is filled, my heart's thirst is quenched, and I am able to sit and rest and enjoy the shade of His sheltering hand, instead of endlessly questing for temporary fulfillment.

Thank You, Lord, for the generous, fulfilling, life-giving rain!
